Attending the event was CIPPEC Director of Institutional Development Mercedes Mendez Ribas. CIPPEC’s participation as one of Argentina’s most important Think Tanks was especially significant in view of Argentina assuming the G20’s presidency in 2018.
The conference hosted discussions and exchanges between Think Tank scholars from the G20 member countries, its objective to equip political leaders with tools for innovative, equitable and sustainable public policy proposals.
The T20 process was coordinated – with the support of the German government – by the German Development Institute (Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik – DIE) and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (Kieler Institut für Weltwirtschaftsforschung – IfW).
The Berlin T20 Conference centered on the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, focusing on international cooperation in support of developing countries. A wide range of themes were discussed from climate policy and finance to forced migration and global inequality.
Ms Mendez Ribas fed in crucially to the T20 event, forming part of its opening panel discussion and making the argument that Argentina and groups such as CIPPEC had the potential not just to enrich this year’s G20 agenda but act as bridge in this year’s handover of the presidency to ensure effective continuation of key development goals and priorities.
